2Justification
The problem or need
Farming on the Hauran plain relies on flood irrigation from weak wells; half the water is wasted and wheat and vegetable yields fall year after year.
Today
9,000 m³ per hectare a year, diesel pumps running 10 hours a day, and well levels falling two metres a year.
3Objectives
- A modern drip and sprinkler network covering 12,000 hectares with solar pumping, cutting water use 45%.
Strategic objectives served
- SO-1.2 — Reliable statistics and economic data for decisions
4Expected benefits
| Kind | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Cost saving | Pumping cost for farmers down 60% |
| Sustainability | Water use down 45% and diesel generators retired |
